How do I contact Quote My Motor with a query?

You can email our customer care team at info@quotemymotor.com or call us on 03330 069006, Monday to Friday, between 8:30am and 5pm.

How does the collection service work?

When you share your car's registration and your postcode, we'll whip up a quick quote for you. If you like what you see, we'll give you a ring to set up a pickup time that suits you. On the day of the pickup, we'll shoot you a call 30 minutes before our trusty tow truck shows up at your place. We'll double-check your info and car ownership, load up your ride, and make sure you get paid before we say goodbye. Easy peasy!

What happens when I click ‘Accept Quote’

We'll need your contact info to double-check your quote and chat about when it's best for you to pick up your car. If you've decided to drop off your scrap car, we'll make sure we've got the right address and know when your chosen place is open for business.

What if I have given you the wrong post code?

Make sure to pop in the right postcode so we can find your car for pickup. Don't worry, we won't sneak in any sneaky fees, but we do need the right location to give you an exact quote. If you've got it wrong, just type in the correct info, and we'll be good to go.

Can I deliver my car to you?

Absolutely! Once you've popped in your reg and postcode, you've got options. You can let us swing by and pick up your car right from your place, or if you prefer, you can drop it off at a nearby spot. It's all about what works best for you!

How will you pay me for my car?

We've got an easy and safe way to get you paid – right into your bank account! When our friendly driver swings by to pick up your car, you can enter your account details into our super-secure payment system.

If you're the one delivering your vehicle, no worries! We'll make sure payment gets squared away right there at the drop-off spot.

My car registration isn’t recognised on the website, can I still sell it to you?

There could be a few reasons for this. Is your car registered in the UK? Is the registration number you provided correct? Maybe it's been deregistered with the DVLA? Don't worry; just get in touch with us, and we'll help track down your car details to give you a quote. We're here to assist!

If I click ‘Accept Quote’ by mistake, what happens?

No need to stress! We'll still need your contact details to confirm the quote. It's just a small step to make sure everything goes smoothly.

Can you give me cash for my car?

Just so you know, the Scrap Metal Dealers Act (SMDA) doesn't allow cash payments for scrap metal, including scrap cars. So, if someone tries to offer you cash for your old ride, watch out! It's against the law, and you should steer clear.

I’ve been offered a better price elsewhere.

Metal prices tend to go up and down quite a bit. So, it's a good idea to double-check if the quote is still on the money and that you'll get what we promised. If you ever want to chat about the price we've thrown your way, don't hesitate to reach out. We're all about giving you the best deal possible!

Do I need to provide proof of identity?

Yes. The rules laid out in the Scrap Metal Dealers Act (SMDA) of 2013 means we'll need to grab a copy of your photo ID and some proof of where you live. The easiest way to do this is with a valid UK photo driving licence. Or, you can go with a passport and a piece of mail, like a utility bill, bank statement, credit card statement, or council tax statement. Just make sure it's dated within the last three months, and please, no mobile phone bills.

How quickly will I be paid?

When we pick up your car, we'll make sure you get paid right away with a same-day bank transfer. As soon as it's done, we'll shoot you an email or a text to let you know that the payment is on its way.

Will you give me a receipt for my car?

Your payment confirmation email or text is not just a notice of your payment, it's also your official receipt for your scrap car. If you happen to misplace these details, no worries – just reach out to us, and we'll send you a fresh confirmation. Plus, if you need a Certificate of Destruction (CoD) for your vehicle, just drop us an email, and we'll sort that out for you.

Do I need to do anything to my car before it is collected?

Before we pick up your car, please double-check that you've removed all your personal stuff from it. Once we've got it, we can't give anything back, so it's best to be on the safe side.

Should I clean my car before I drop it off or it’s collected?

Nah, it doesn't have to be sparkling clean, but it's a good idea to clear out any junk, garden stuff, or debris from your car. Keep it tidy!

One or more of the tyres are flat

It's best if your tyres are pumped up, so we can scoop up your car in a jiffy. If they're not, just give us a heads up, and we'll make sure to plan for a little extra time when we come to pick up your vehicle. We're flexible!

My car is over ten years old, will you still buy it?

Absolutely! We're in the market for cars of all ages, shapes, and sizes. So, don't hesitate to reach out!

My car is missing parts. Will you still buy it?

Our quote is calculated for a whole car, and it includes important parts like the engine, catalytic converter, gearbox, and wheels. If some things are missing from your vehicle, just give us a shout, and we'll tweak our quote to match your car. We're here to work it out with you!

My car is damaged. Will you still buy it?

Sure thing, but make sure to mention it when we give you a ring to set up the pickup. That way, we can make sure our quote matches the damage to your car. We're here to help you out!

Can I keep my personal registration plate?

Of course! If you want to hold onto your personalized license plate, you'll need to work that out with the DVLA before we come to grab your car. They've got all the info you need on keeping or transferring your special plate on their website. Check it out here: https://www.gov.uk/personalised-vehicle-registration-numbers

Do I have to be at home when you collect my car?

We just need someone at home when we swing by to pick up your car. It can be the owner or someone who's got the green light to sell it. We want to make sure everything goes smoothly!

What documents do I need to give you?

We'll need your V5C, which is basically your car's registration document. It's the red one, about the size of an A3 paper. Just a heads up!

I can’t find my V5C (Registration document)

No worries, we can still purchase your car without the V5C. The V5C doesn't necessarily prove ownership, but we'll sort out the ownership details as part of the process. We'll also let the DVLA know that your car has been scrapped, and you'll get a Certificate of Destruction (CoD). We've got it all covered!

What else should I give you?

Don't forget to grab your car keys and, if your car has one, that special wheel nut key. It's a real lifesaver!

I don’t have the keys to my car.

No worries at all! When we give you a ring to set up the pickup time, just give us a heads up. We're here to make things easy for you!

How long does collection of my car take once you’re with me?

It's a quick one! If your car is easy to get to, we'll have it all done in just about 15 minutes. Super speedy!

I’m going to be late or can’t be home for the time agreed.

Just give us a shout to reschedule the pickup time. You'll find our contact info in the email or text we sent you. We're here to help!

I still have finance outstanding on my car. Will you still buy it?

We’re afraid not.

Do you buy commercial vehicles?

Just reach out to us directly to enquire. We're here to help, so don't hesitate to get in touch!

Does my car need to be insured when you collect it?

Nope, but here's the thing: If your car's parked on a public road, it should be insured, even if it's not going anywhere. Safety first!

Do I need a Certificate of Destruction (CoD)?

Your Certificate of Destruction (CoD) is like your car's official retirement notice. It's the paper trail that proves you've done the responsible thing and legally parted ways with your old vehicle. We're here to help, so if you need a CoD, just give us a shout, and we'll send it over via email. It's a breeze!

Oh, and here's a fun fact for you: Only registered Authorised Treatment Facilities (ATFs) can hand out these CoDs. Lucky for you, we play by the rules, and we'll scrap your car at our registered ATF sites. So, you're in good hands.

Do I need to complete the V5C?

If you fill out section 9 on your V5C/3, you can send it back to the DVLA. We'll keep the rest of the V5C, and if you want, we'll send you the CoD (Certificate of Destruction). It's that easy!

Who tells the DVLA that my car has been scrapped?

Your car is headed to one of our Authorised Treatment Facility (ATF). Here, your car gets properly deregistered with the DVLA (so you don't have to worry about it anymore), and we’ll hand you a CoD (Certificate of Destruction) as proof. If you ever want a copy of that CoD, just give us a holler, and we'll send it your way.
